Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Since the foundation of The School of Psychotherapy, it has been committed to the transmission of Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis in Ireland. Through the tranlsation work of Cormac Gallagher, TSOP has been at the forefront of making the work of Jacques Lacan available in english. This work was closely allied with the provision of training programmes in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, most recently culminating in the delivery of a four-year Specific Modality Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, comprising a two-year MSc Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy awarded by UCD and a two-year Post-Masters. Upon graduation, students fulfil the criteria to become accredited psychoanalytic psychotherapists with a professional body.
Since 2023/2024, in anticipation of the introduction of state registration, it was decided that the delivery of these programmes – plus other newly developed courses in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalytic Supervision – should be through the UCD School of Medicine. You can find more information on these training programmes using the following links:
Professional Masters in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
MSc in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Studies
Professional Diploma in Psychoanalytic Supervision
Graduate Diploma in Psychoanalytic Studies
With the training programmes moving into UCD, The School of Psychotherapy has now renewed its focus on the vital work of development and publication of research within the field of psychoanalysis, Continuous Professional Development for those who work in the field, as well as continuing its work in translation of psychoanalytic texts – all with a view to furthering the reach of psychoanalysis in Ireland and further afield.
