Group Courses

The training commences with a one-year Foundation Course which introduces students to the theory and practice of Group Analysis. This course may stand alone or constitute the first level of a three-year training in group analysis which can lead to the awarding of a Diploma in Group Work Practice.

With the Diploma qualification, students may apply for the Professional Qualifying Training in Group Analysis which includes a M.Sc. in Group Analytic Psychotherapy awarded by UCD  and work towards a Clinical License to Practice awarded by the IIGA (Irish Institute of Group Analysis).

Timetables

All of the Group Analysis courses, including the Foundation Course, run concurrently on a block weekend basis of 9 weekends per academic year in the School of Psychotherapy, St Vincent’s University Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin 4.

Who Should Take This Course?

The Foundation Course in Group Analysis is very suitable for mature professionals with an interest in working with and understanding group dynamics. The course helps professionals from many backgrounds to recognise the effect of group dynamics upon the self and others, and provides the opportunity to develop professionally and personally. Group Analysis training can offer new understanding to leaders, managers, organisational development experts and consultants by applying group analytic concepts to analyse unconscious processes in organisations. Primarily the training provides the foundation for continued training into the clinical field of Group Analysis, where practioners use the method of group to treat clients. The course attracts professionals from a wide range of clinical and mental health fields, including social workers, community workers, psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses.

The Foundation Course timetable runs from Friday evening to Sunday lunchtime.

The Diploma Course timetable runs from Friday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime.

The Qualifying Course timetable runs from Friday morning to Sunday lunchtime.
